DTPR for AI is an extension of the Digital Trust for Places & Routines standard. This page documents the license terms inherited from DTPR and any additional license terms that apply to content adapted from external taxonomies.

DTPR core

The DTPR standard — icons, taxonomy, Design Guide, MCP server, REST API, @dtpr/ui, and this microsite — is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) license, as established by the original Digital Transparency in the Public Realm contributors (2019) and maintained by Helpful Places.

Portions of the DTPR icons incorporate elements of, or are derived from, the Material Symbols and Icons, available under the Apache License 2.0.

Research foundations

Where content in the ai datachain type is adapted from external research, the source is documented here with its full citation and any additional license terms.

Risks taxonomy (ai__risks_mitigation)

The risk taxonomy in the AI schema is adapted from the AIAAIC Collaborative, Human-Centred Taxonomy of AI, Algorithmic, and Automation Harms. AIAAIC's 9 harm types — Autonomy, Physical, Psychological, Reputational, Financial & Business, Human Rights & Civil Liberties, Societal & Cultural, Political & Economic, Environmental — organize the DTPR risk category from the victim's perspective: what could happen to a person, not where the failure originates in the system.

License confirmed on the arXiv paper and the OECD.AI catalog entry for the AIAAIC Repository. The living taxonomy and its underlying incident database (1,500+ documented incidents as of mid-2024) are maintained at aiaaic.org.

License summary

SurfaceLicense
DTPR icons, taxonomy, Design Guide (standard)CC BY 4.0
DTPR for AI documentation (this site), MCP server, REST API, @dtpr/uiCC BY 4.0

The ShareAlike clause on AIAAIC-derived content is scoped to the risk-taxonomy content itself. Downstream users who redistribute or modify the ai__risks_mitigation element definitions must distribute their modifications under CC BY-SA 4.0. The rest of DTPR for AI remains CC BY 4.0.

Contributing back

Gaps or extensions identified while authoring the DTPR risk catalog that are also relevant to AIAAIC's general-purpose taxonomy — for example, harm framings specific to public-space AI deployment — will be proposed back to the AIAAIC working group as upstream contributions, in the spirit of the ShareAlike license.

Per-element citation

Every element adapted from an external taxonomy also carries its source in the element's sources[] array, retrievable via the MCP get_element tool or REST GET /api/v2/schemas/:version/elements/:element_id. Each entry in sources[] carries { type, title, url, citation }. Per-element provenance is the authoritative record; this page is the human-readable summary.
